About Us

The Black Puppy Foundation funds research in to mental health issues affecting Australia's youth. Established in 2007, The Black Puppy Foundation's name draws links to Australia's pre-eminent authority on mental health research, The Black Dog Institute. We target those in the 25 years and below age grouping, but hope that our work will have broader benefits.

The Black Puppy Foundation aims to provide targeted funding to PhD-level researchers whose focus is in the field of anxiety, depression or psychosis. We believe that by providing assistance in this area we can work towards improving the identification and management of mental health issues for our target audience.

Despite growing awareness, many are surprised to learn that at least one third of young people have had an episode of mental illness by the time they turn 25. The flow-on effect of is that nearly half of the population will experience the first-hand impact of mental illness at some stage in their lives. These figures are truly staggering.

  • THE LOGO

The Black Puppy Foundation's logo represents a lone puppy who's featureless & dark, yet the paw-prints behind the puppy represent the journey that has been travelled by the individual.

The logo was designed to appeal to those which we seek to benefit - young Australians. We thank freelance graphical designer James McDermid for his pro bono work developing and ultimately designing our logo.
